A study by O’Flaherty N. and Fenelon L. published in J Hosp Infect. 2015, concluded that 85% of the stethoscopes used by health professionals are contaminated with a high bacterial load that includes strains such as Staphylococcus Aureus, Pseudomonas Aeruginosa, Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus and Clostridium Difficile.
